98 mauser markings
There is a good possibility that the rifle started out as a barrelled action made by FN in Belgium and was completed by a gunsmith as a custom rifle. The "B" is most likely a series number and does not stand for Belgium. The barrel and mauser action were indeed made in Belgium and has the proof markings to show that it was.I inherited a Mod. 98 Mauser from my grandfather in the 80s. There a a TON of Mausers and variations 98, k98, military, commercial, sportster, etc. I need help specifically identifying what I have and then the current value of it. It's stamped 1944 on the bottom of the barrel. It has serial numbers in a few places and all showing "265".

Rifles that are most valuable are early rifles that are in original condition (not reworked) and that have the right unit markings.
