Have not tried Sword Bard yet and have been running Astarion as a gloomstalker ranger with two hand cross bows with sharpshooter and the risky ring/blind immunity ring. My entire group is built around the darkness mechanic using shadowheart as an eldritch knight, tav as a sorcerer with devil sight specced into ice control outside the darkness ... Gloom Stalker. Emerging like a horrible gift from the envelope of darkness and shadow, you ambush and put down your foes before they can even scream. Gloom Stalker is a Subclass of Ranger. Gloom Stalkers specialise in taking out foes swiftly and ruthlessly from the shadows, gaining damage bonuses and increased movement speed. Initiative is really important for an archer build. Another alternative is 6 Swords / 3 Gloom Stalker / 3 Battle Master. Battle Master's Maneuvers are great for utility or for when you run out of Flourishes. But most opponents will probably be near death by Round 3 anyways.

I would say 3 attacks at lvl 11 fighter is better then most subclass features for ranger at lvl 11.The best companions for a Bard Multiclass build in BG3 are Shadowheart, Gale, and Astarion. This will give you a balanced team with a Cleric for support, Gale for area damage, and a Rogue for ranged damage, and utility. Shadowheart ( Cleric ): buffs, healing, and crowd control.
